On 26 March 2018, Luís Manuel Ribeiro, founder of J. C. Ribeiro, was awarded the title of Keeper of the Quaich at a moving ceremony in Scotland attended by many illustrious members of the spirits industry. Luís Manuel Ribeiro is the first and only individual from the Portuguese cork industry to be so honoured.
The Quaich is a Scottish glass known as the cup of friendship, traditionally used in Scotland for toasts to guests of the house.
Keepers of the Quaich is an exclusive, international society that recognises those who have demonstrated outstanding commitment to the Scotch Whisky Industry. Founded by leading distilleries, it is, by its very nature, the beating heart of the industry. The society recognises those who embody the heritage, quality and traditions of Scotch Whisky.
Luís Ribeiro has been described as an exemplar of values such as honesty and perseverance, with a great passion for the cork industry and an immense pride in his loyal customers. A leader in promoting the ideals of quality and service, over his years of service in the spirits industry he has gained worldwide recognition in this market. His enthusiasm, leadership and determination for excellence are an inspiration to his family, friends and employees. J. C. Ribeiro could not be more proud of its Boss, Mentor and Friend.
